Bach wrote relatively few orchestral works, but each is a masterpiece. Our annual Bach Fest concert that opens each season is a celebration of these marvels of Bach’s musical genius. The program will feature two of his festive dance suites, written for the wealthy court at Cöthen: the delightful Orchestral Suite No. 2, with a virtuosic part for the flute soloist; and the second movement from the Suite No. 3, popularly known as “Air on the G String.”  In addition are solo works for flute and violin, and the exquisite “Bach Double,” his only concerto for two violins. The evening’s finale is the Piano Concerto in A Major, which Maestro Radu will perform on St. Katharine’s magnificent Bösendorfer Grand Piano while conducting from the keyboard. Complementing the program will be Maestro’s customary “live notes.” Join us for a fabulous start to our Season 39!

Running time: 90 minutes – no intermission
