We open this Anniversary Concert Season 40 with our traditional celebration of the genius of J. S. Bach. Though he wrote relatively few orchestral works, each is a masterpiece. This program will feature two of his festive dance suites, written for the wealthy court at Cöthen: the delightful Orchestral Suite No. 2, with a virtuosic part for the flute soloist; and the second movement from the Suite No. 3, popularly known as “Air on the G String.” In addition is a solo work for violin and the exquisite “Bach Double,” his only concerto for two violins. Two piano concertos performed by the Maestro on St. Katharine’s superb Bösendorfer Grand Piano (while conducting from the keyboard) complete this spectacular program. And of course, Maestro will provide his customary “live notes.” Join us for a fabulous start to Anniversary Concert Season 40!
Running time: 90 minutes – no intermission
